Tommy

Tommy's last day on this Earth could have been September 5, 2006 when he was hit by a car and left in the middle of the road to end his life. Many by-standers who saw him thought he was not alive... and they contacted the shelter to pick him up his lifeless body. When shelter workers came to the accident scene, they saw Tommy... eyes open, leg bleeding, and having seizures!

Tommy was immediately rushed to the shelter vet where he was temporarily treated for his wounds. The vet declared that Tommy had been neglected for many years— he had ear infections, a massive hematoma, a missing patch of fur, and a broken leg! Thus, he was scheduled for euthanasia at the shelter.

A very kind-hearted shelter employee could not see him die after all he had endured.  He deserved a second chance at life... and so he came to Fuzzy Rescue.

Tommy was treated for his leg, ears, and the vet even did blood work on him in which the results came out normal. His seizures were perhap
s a result of sudden trauma, not necessarily linked to a debilitating disease.

After six months of intensive care and treatment in foster care, and a $6500 veterinary bill, Tommy survived the accident and he overcame his challenges.  His cast was removed after 2 months, and the following year he was placed in a home with a kind, loving doggy mommy. Currently he is living in a nice, spacious home in San Diego, and he has hydrotherapy sessions for his hind leg! He is spoiled rotten and celebrates every holiday with his mommy and family.

Tommy’s accident is not a unique case. Countless number of animals are hit by cars, abused, neglected, and left to die or euthanized in the shelter system. Fuzzy Rescue works hard to take in as many special-needs animals and animals due for euthanasia, even when resources are scarce and limited. We believe that every animal deserves a second chance at life, and we know there is a special home out there for every animal.

Fuzzy Rescue,

Approximately 9 months ago I accepted a job in San Diego. Tommy and I packed up the car and moved into an adorable house with a fenced in yard. The neighborhood is perfect for the little guy because it’s dog friendly. There are plenty of parks, outdoor dining areas where he can tag along, and friendly neighbors that help take him out while I’m at work.

A typical week for Tommy consists of walks, car rides, play-time with other doggie pals, and his all time favorite, sleeping. Tommy has become very popular in the local area since he loves to lay out in the sun in the front yard and beg for people to pet him. He’s learned to expect his morning and evening walks and eagerly waits for them. Another past time Tommy enjoys is traveling in
the car. The second he hears keys his ears perk up, tail begins to wag and readily anticipates the car ride. In commute he hangs his head out the window and barks at other dogs we pass along the way. Tommy’s two best buddies are Hoosker, a wheaten terrier and Mr. Bungle, a beagle mix, who belong to my boyfriend. The three companions spend a lot of time together and have grown very close. Many weekends we’ll hike some of the small canyons in the local area. It’s nice because it’s isolated, allowing the dogs to roam freely (You almost wouldn’t know Tommy had a broken leg). By the end of the day the dogs are all exhausted and snoring loudly.

Tommy has been the absolute perfect companion and has brought so much happiness to my life.  I could not have asked for a better dog!  Thank you for taking such good care of him while he was awaiting adoption. Next time I’m in the area I’ll be sure to let you know so we can stop by and say hi. Take care and keep up the good work. You provide such a wonderful service.

Sincerely,

M. Wong
